Dear Neighbor,

I’m Christine Morse, and I’m excited about the opportunity to serve as 9th Circuit Court Judge. For me, this role goes beyond the courtroom. It’s about making Kalamazoo a safer place for all of us while empowering people with the resources they need to break free from the cycle of incarceration. My work in community violence intervention and access to behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment will inform my decision-making. As your judge, I will bring compassion and dedication to the bench, ensuring that everyone involved in the justice system is treated with dignity and receives fair and just treatment. Together, we can create a more equitable and supportive community, for all of Kalamazoo.

Christine believes the courtroom should be run with clear communication and a basic level of respect for everyone who enters. We know the new judgeship will have a criminal circuit court docket, which means that people's freedom is at issue, it is a life-altering process for many, and should be handled with utmost seriousness. In this country, people are innocent until proven guilty and victims of crime are witnesses needed at trial who deserve compassion, thus Christine will strive to make the courtroom a less intimidating place for all those engaged in the judicial process.
